Today, a television reporter threw not one but two of his shoes at George W. Bush. The American President ducked twice during a press conference in Iraq (watch video below). Luckily no one got seriously hurt. Apparently, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino suffered a black eye.
How was this possible? Iraq is a war zone, after all. Where was the Secret Service? Aren’t the guys in the black suits wearing shades supposed to protect Bush? Don’t they train to take a bullet for the President?
Back in 1981, agent Timothy McCarthy took one for Ronald Reagan. Today, no one even took a shoe for Bush. Somebody should have at least stopped the second one.
The President himself showed some well placed humor. “That was a size 10 shoe he threw at me, you may want to know”, he said shortly after the attack.

the republicans will try to blame obama for the attack im sure, but it really is a fitting end to a horrible presidency
Shouldn’t all Americans get to throw our shoes at him too?
Small token of disapproval, when he deserves so much more.
that was great, the only time I saw bush move so fast, thumbs up
i do not agree with bush politics,i do not really like bush but bush is currently our president, there should be an outrage that someone in another country threw anything at our president. think of the outrage if someone threw something at brad pitt, or angelina? obama will be our president soon, and hopefully greater days ahead. but we need to stand together now as a family. the family of the united states of america. people need to know an act against our president will not be tolerated or we will see alot more of this in the future against other presidents
The Iraqi people have always been ungrateful. They deserve nothing more than another Saddam to keep them in check.
Wonder where the Secret Service was?
Think the Atlanta Falcons should draft that journalist onto their NFL team. The guy threw not one, but two size 10 shoes from 50 yards away and if it had been
a football, the Prez just made a touchdown!
I’m not a huge bush fan at all but I gotta admit he was fast at dodging that first show. Secret service should have been all over that.
i am extremely dissapointed that the secret service did not protect the president and was not taken out of the room to secure the president.
the secret service just stood there.
MAIN PRIORITY, TAKE THE PRESIDENT OUT OF POSSIBLE HARM.
SHOULD HAVE SECURED THE PRESIDENT.
but, they just stood there.
If this took place in Iraq of past-time, that guy would’ve been first tortured, then his family would’ve been rounded up and tortured, his wife raped in front of him and then they would’ve been all shot in the head and fed to the dogs.
Can’t anybody see this point?
I’M not a george bush fan but he didn’t ned for that to happen to him after all he is still the president i hope that report get sometime in jail for an attack on a globe leader. what the world coming to and were were the body guard the guy could had a bomb or shoe bomb
Regardless of what you think about his presidency (which I am happy that it will be over soon), he still is the president of the United States and deserves the respect for it.
is it possible that CNN meets with the angry Iraqi journalist and ask him why he threw the shows at BUSH?
You did good today Mr. President. I have never been one of his fans, but the way he handled this incident raised my esteem of him. This is how a world leader behaves.
Still no proof that the Prez has any understnding of his war crimes. Get this…according to George the shoe thrower was just trying to get some attention…meaning…well, it had no meaning.
egged on the way in, shoe-ed on the way out.
Can we just take a moment to think about the circumstances. I lived in Washington for 4 years and worked one block away from the White House. The Secret Service is no joke. When the President is scheduled to do any appearance they normally arrive at least a day early to secure the location. If it is a long stay they might get there a week early. In the old days they even set up temporary land line telephones. Needless to say any American President visit is a high security situation. It is no shock that someone was able to smuggle their own shoes into the a foreign countries. If shoes were the best thing that he could get in their I would say the Secret Service did a pretty good job securing the area.
I am actually impressed that they were able to quickly assess the situation enough to know that it was not the kind of situation where they needed to uses firearms. Imagine what would have happened if they fired on that guy? The story would be much different today.
What I find more shocking that our government continues to screw up their research. By now you would think that they have a strong understanding of that region. Shouldn’t someone have known that throwing shoes is a custom? Couldn’t someone have anticipated that some members of the press in Iraq were angry and that they might be willing to do something like this to draw the worlds attention to their own story?
Bush does have good reflexes but I would not call him “Fast on his feet?” Whenever GWB is faced with opposition he chooses to get more and more smug. βIt was a size 10 shoe?β A person on who is fast on his feet might have had something more diplomatic to say. Throwing shoes at a President is not the appropriate way to send that message. As a member of the press that journalist has been given the right to say whatever he wants to he has a television station to voice his disdain without throwing himself into a fire.
The Iraqi should have taken a dozen or so well-placed rounds to the face from the U.S.Secret Service and been dead before he even reached for a second shoe. The fact that he isn’t shows how benevolent the leadership of our nation is. God Bless Our President George Bush.
This is a president who has lied to take this country into an illegal war, illegally bailed out banks, has literally bankrupted the country, illegally invaded other nations blatantly ignored the Constitution he swore to uphold and will not be held accountable for it all. You can’t do all of that and expect people to like you.
