Electability

Is Barack Obama the Ralph Nader of 2008? Will his run deliver the White House to the Republicans? So far the Senator from Illinois has been able to win in red states – Georgia, South Carolina, Iowa, Alabama, North Dakota – his home state, and traditional Democratic strong holds like Delaware.

Hillary Clinton on the other hand is winning in crucial swing states like Tennessee, Arkansas, and possibly in Missouri and in Arizona.

What does it mean? Should Obama be successful in big blue states like California, Delaware or Connecticut he might end up with the nomination. But in the general election he might lack the necessary support in those all important swing states. In November states like California and Connecticut will be won by the Democratic nominee anyway.
