Mitt’s Macaca

In 2006 George Allen lost his seat in the US Senate after calling an American of Indian descent “macaca”. The racial slur was caught on video and seen on Youtube by millions. It also destroyed Allen’s hope to run for the Oval Office this year.

On Martin Luther King day, presidential candidate Mitt Romney had his own macaca moment. In Florida he posed with a group of African American teenagers. In a revealing moment he felt like he was surrounded by canines. «Who let the dogs out», Romney cheered while hugging black kids. «Huh, huh, huh.» I don’t know what he was thinking, all I know is that Romney’s Mormon church has long history of racism and did not let African Americans be bishops until 1978.

So far the dog day afternoon has not hurt Romney’s popularity among Republicans.
