Hollywood’s Big Loser

Kevin O’Connell has another Oscar nod under his belt. This morning the sound mixer received his 20th nomination for a golden statue for his work on “Transformers”. So far, he’s never won. This makes him officially the biggest loser in the history of the Academy Awards.

Last year O’Connell was nominated for Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto”. Before he lost again he spoke to me via telephone. He said he’d thank his mother; he talked about how he met Jack Nicholson with his pants down; and what a win would mean to him: “It would prove to the world that you should never give up on your dreams, regardless how difficult it might be.”

I’ll root for him to keep losing. Now he’s the biggest Oscar loser in history. If he wins he’ll just be a sound mixer with an Oscar.
